Do you feel like you don’t have enough time in the day to reach your goals?
Truth is, we all have the same 24 hours in a day. What you do with these 24 hours is 100% YOUR choice. How are you choosing to prioritize your time?
Take an inventory of how you’re using your time, and start by pausing every 15 minutes during your day to write down what you’re doing with your time. You’ll start to realize pretty quickly that a lot of these things don’t align with your priorities and your goals. We get to choose what we do with our time, and recognizing when we’re not working towards our goals will help us make better choices.
Here are some tips to help you manage your time:
Find what triggers your habits and go from there. If your alarm goes off in the morning and you find yourself mindlessly scrolling through your phone 20 minutes later, your trigger is your alarm and waking up in the morning and the habit is grabbing your phone. Those 20 minutes scrolling could have been 20 minutes used to reach your goals.
Respect your own time, and acknowledge when other things or people don’t. Set a timeline for tasks and stand by that timeline. Remove things from your life that don’t respect your time and say no when you need to or want to. The temporary discomfort of saying no will be worth not having the guilt of doing something you didn’t want to.
You can’t do it all on your own, it’s OK to ask for help. Rotate who brings lunch to work, swap picking up the kids for a carpool, and offer to use your skills and superpowers for someone and have them use theirs to do the same. Outsource other tasks that you don’t enjoy doing. Use an app to get groceries or hire someone to mow the lawn or clean your house.
Find tasks you can set and forget. Plan your outfits for the week or do some meal prepping so you can schedule time to do the things that will help you towards your goals. It’s OK if life gets in the way, having a little planned in advance is better than having nothing planned in advance.
Prioritize your goal and give yourself some grace when you can’t get to everything. If your goal is to get fit, use your time to go to the gym and let the dishes sit for a night. Let those tasks go that don’t align with your goals.
